21:30- Own time
9:00-22:00 2 x Breathing sessions, starting the integration
9:00-14:00 Deepening the integration
Welcome to dive deep within in this full board retreat in the historical Paimio Sanatorium! The darkness of november calls us to take a pause and to turn inwards.
Holotropic Breathwork is a powerful method of self-exploration, which allows you to surrender to your inner process in a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space with your own pace and style. On Friday we will land to the venue, meet the group and prepare for the inner journeys. On Saturday there will be two breathing sessions, in which each participant will be breathing in one session and sitting for the breather-partner in one. On Sunday we will have proper time for the integration-process. Tasty vegetarian food is included in the price. No previous experience of Holotropic Breathwork is required. We will use english and/or finnish languages, depending on the language of the participants. Translation is provided if needed.
We are supporting the “Psykedeelit 2023”, second scientific conference about psychedelics in Finland, which is held during thursday and friday of the same week in Åbo Akademi (23.-24.11.). Holotropic Breathwork connects to psychedelic research from its inception: Stan Grof, the pioneer of psychedelic research and therapy, created Holotropic Breathwork as a substitute for psychedelic therapy, where it is possible to experience psychedelic-like experiences and therapeutic processes. Grof has written many important books on the field, for example LSD Psychotherapy.
We will offer a 20€ discount to our retreat for the participants of the conference. Conference is already sold out, but you can join via online streaming (costs 20€, registration till 12.11.). Conference is held entirely in english. More information about the conference and buying the streaming ticket from here: https://psyty.fi/psykedeelit2023/
Retreat takes place in the historical Paimio Sanatorium created by legendary architects Alvar and Aino Aalto (Alvar Aallon tie 275, 21540 Paimio). You can reach the venue easily by bus, 1h from Turku and 2h from Helsinki. There are different options for accommodation: 1 person room 160€, 2 person room 90€, 4 person room 45€ (limited amount). You can also sleep anywhere else as far as you can participate in the retreat within its schedule. We don't recommend long driving during the retreat.
The atmosphere and philosophy of the sanatorium fits perfectly for breathwork, which can allow healing on individual and collective levels. “The Paimio Sanatorium is one of the most important examples of modern architecture, completed in 1933. The Sanatorium represents humane architecture of well-being, a philosophy that continues to this day. The building and its surrounding nature has been designed to be a healing element in itself. Aalto’s starting point for the design was to make the building itself a contributor to the healing process. He called the building a “medical instrument”, an environment that could provide the literal breathing space to help rehabilitate patients. Paimio Sanatorium continues to radiate a profound sense of human empathy.”

Facilitators of the retreat
Valde lives in Kaarina, in a commune with his friends and cats. He started the Holotropic Breathwork training in 2016 and got certified in 2019, and has been organizing breathwork events from 2018. Valde has a lot of appreciation and passion for this method, it has deepened his own path in very meaningful ways and has teached him to value deeply non-judging, supportive and empowering space for inner growth. He has a masters degree in comparative religion and has been academically and practically interested in non-ordinary states of consciousness, meditation, psychedelics, buddhism and other mystically oriented branches of religions. He is trainer and event organizer in finnish psycare and harm reduction organization Kotilo. He is also a writer, aguahara-practitioner, volunteering in a terminal care home and has started cognitive brief-therapist and mindfulness teacher trainings. One of his passions is to integrate yogic-lifestyle and a compassionate way of being into modern society. He loves nature, meditation, music, dancing, karate & kobudo and genuine connection with other beings.
Jussi is from Turku and he is a medical doctor and is specializing in psychiatry. His interest about the healing potential of the non-ordinary states of consciousness comes from his own experiences with different practices. He is currently in the GTT holotropic breathwork facilitator training and also has started the TRE facilitator and MBSR teacher training and Integrative psychotherapy training. Jussi is together with Valde the founder of the Holotropic Finland and is going to work passionately to make this practice more known and more available in Finland. Jussi grounds himself with swimming, climbing, friends, music and nature.
Anna lives in Tallinn, Estonia but works in Finland as general practitioner for Terveystalo. She started Holotropic Breathwork training at 2016 and got certified in 2018. Holotropic Breathwork, non-ordinary states of consciousness, plant medicines and psychedelics interest her more and more. For she it is very important to understand how to stay healthy both physically and mentally. Nature and animals play also important role in her life.
Iida discovered Holotropic breathwork in 2019 and since then the method has been a significant part of her own healing journey. The safe, loving and empowering breathwork community has felt so much like home that she was inspired to start the holotropic breathwork facilitator training in 2022.
Enabling holistic well being and body-mind-soul coherence for individuals, groups and communities is Iida’s calling. She is a nature connection guide, gives energy healing treatments and will also become certified as a breathwork coach later on in 2023. Her own ways for connecting with her authentic self include exploring voice and movement, doing breathwork and experiencing the nature.
In her daily life Iida is a Human Resource professional, mother of a wonderful 8-year girl and servant to a fluffy and furry dog.
