The Direct Experience of Reality and The Theory and Practice of Holotropic Breathwork®
We offer an extended retreat with Holotropic Breathwork® and Zen Meditation.
In these five days, you can fully let go and immerse yourself in your innermost being. The beautiful retreat house, surrounded by nature and the daily freshly prepared food will support your process.
"An important characteristic of the holotropic strategy of therapy and self-exploration is that sooner or later it turns into a philosophical and spiritual quest." -Holotropic Breathwork, Grof & Grof
This retreat introduces Holotropic Breathwork® with a gentle taste of Zen as a direct experience of reality. We enquire into and experience how the two are related, can complement each other and how Zen can support the integration of your HB session providing a living spiritual quest in daily life.
You will have the opportunity to dive deep into HB and through Zazen learn to still the mind through focusing and crystallising attention which will provide greater freedom in experiencing all possible states of consciousness. This is a natural and obvious support for entering into the Holotropic journey.
You will learn about the theory of HB and the philosophy of Zen. In particular we will focus on the connection between the Basic Perinatal Matrices (BPMs) and zen. For example the limitation or feeling of being stuck, experienced in BPM 2 can be similar to the feeling of limitation experienced in seated meditation. Or the relief at breaking through into clear understanding in meditation practice is not dissimilar to BPM 4 with the relief of physical birth when the child has passed through the birth process.
We will, through exercises, meditation and discussion investigate if this sense of self is real and solid or just a collection of ideas we call self which we are holding onto. We will explore going beyond concepts to direct experience where we can be that which is effortless and whole before even a thought. We will then have the opportunity to bring this effortless freedom and openness, which Zen calls No-Mind, to our breath sessions, mandala painting and sharing circles.
As integration is such an important part of the work the practice of crystallisation through concentration and focusing attention in Zazen is essential. We need to develop this because despite numerous and diverse experiences in HB when we return to every day life we will at times be challenged both mentally and emotionally by our experiences. If we are not integrated we will fall back into our habitual response patterns. Being integrated enough to encounter the difficult situations is being open to the direct experience of reality and responding from this place is practicing in daily life. We may not be perfect but we will be authentic.
All are welcome. No previous experience of HB or meditation is required. The workshop offers two breathing session and two sitting sessions per person.
