Stan Grof (M.D., Ph.D.) több mint ötven éves tapasztalattal rendelkező pszichiáter, aki a módosult tudatállapotok gyógyító és egész életet transzformáló hatását kutatta. Munkájával jelentősen átalakította a pszichéről alkotott uralkodó nyugati felfogást, kibővítve azt a születés előtti és a transzperszonális élményekkel. A Nemzetközi Transzperszonális Szövetség (International Transpersonal Association, ITA) alapítója és korábbi elnöke, Abraham Maslow-val és másokkal együtt a transzperszonális pszichológia alapjait fektette le, mely tudományág az emberi tapasztalás teljes spektrumát kutatja, és célja, hogy a spiritualitás is a tudományág integratív része legyen.
Stan feleségével, Christina Groffal közösen dolgozta ki a holotrop légzés™ technikát, amellyel tudatmódosító szer alkalmazása nélkül elérhető a módosult tudatállapot, mely állapotban mély gyógyulásra van lehetőség. Ezt a munkát folytatva hozták létre a Grof Transzperszonális Képzést (GTT), a holotrop légzés™ facilitátorok képzési programját, mely világszerte aktívan működik (www.holotropic.com).
