Each participant will have the experience of two sessions as a "breather", and two sessions as "sitter". In addition to the four Holotropic Breathwork experiences and the theoretical presentations, during the workshop there will be art, music, movies and group integration. The workshop will be held in Romanian and in English with translation into English and Romanian if needed. If you are coming from outside Romania, it is best to fly into Bucharest and we can help with transportation arrangements from the Henri Coanda (Otopeni) airport to the venue. It will be a 1,30 hour drive, roughly, depending on traffic.

What is Holotropic Breathwork?

Holotropic Breathwork is a powerful self-exploration and healing method developed by psychiatrist and founder of transpersonal psychology Stanislav Grof and his wife Christina Grof. In developing this experiential approach, the two built on their research and knowledge of modern consciousness, anthropology, various depth psychologies, transpersonal psychology, Eastern spiritual practices, and mystical traditions of the world. Coming from the Greek words ‘holos’ (whole) and ‘trepein’ (movement), the name holotropic actually encompasses the essence of the method, the human beings ‘movement towards wholeness’.

The process itself uses very simple means: it combines accelerated breathing with evocative music in a special set and setting. With the eyes closed and lying on a mat, each person uses their own breath and the music in the room to enter a non-ordinary state of consciousness. This state activates the natural inner healing process of the individual's psyche, bringing him or her a particular set of internal experiences. With the inner healing intelligence guiding the process, the quality and content brought forth is unique to each person and for that particular time and place. While recurring themes are common, no two sessions are ever a like.

People who have experienced the method have reported, among others, the following benefits:

  • Experience non-ordinary states of consciousness with deep healing potential in a safe, natural and supportive setting
  • Tap into new dimensions of creativity and find new ways of expression in their journey towards the authentic self
  • Release tension and alleviate stress
  • Support emotional unblocking
  • Develop self-knowledge and understanding
  • Develop a deeper sense of awareness in the day-to-day life
