Integration is where we begin to translate experiences from Holotropic sessions into our lives, where repair can take place and new, healthier patterns can gradually develop slowly building towards lasting transformation.

A Multi-Modal Tapestry to Integration of Expanded States of Consciousness with Mireya Alejo Marcet

The journey into expanded states of consciousness does not end when the music stops or the session comes to an end. Integration is as important as the experience itself. It is the process through which what has opened, shifted or been revealed in a Holotropic state can gradually become part of our everyday life.

Deep experiences can bring new insights, release old patterns, challenge our understanding of ourselves and open possibilities that were previously difficult to imagine. Yet an experience alone does not necessarily create lasting change. Integration is where we begin to translate these experiences into our lives, where repair can take place and new, healthier patterns can gradually develop.

Integration asks us to meet a particular challenge: transformation does not happen only at the level of our thoughts and beliefs. We may need to question deeply held assumptions and old ways of understanding ourselves, while at the same time allowing our nervous system and brain to learn new patterns of responding. Drawing on perspectives from neuroscience and nervous system regulation, we will explore how repeated experiences of safety, connection, embodiment and new ways of responding can support the process of creating lasting change.

This module offers an extensive toolbox for integration. Through four Holotropic Breathwork sessions, we will have the opportunity to experience the process ourselves and explore different ways of working with what emerges. Alongside reflection and dialogue, we will engage with expressive arts, altar making, conscious movement, writing and other experiential practices that can help us give form to inner experiences and bring them into relationship with our everyday lives.

Together, we will explore a broad landscape of possibilities for transforming our inner landscape, discovering that there is no single way to integrate a Holotropic experience. Different experiences call for different forms of attention, expression and embodiment. Sometimes we need to understand; sometimes to move, create, write, ritualize or simply allow something to unfold over time.

The module invites us to discover integration not as a final step after the "real" experience, but as an ongoing creative practice: a process of listening to what has changed within us, supporting what is ready to grow, and gradually embodying new ways of being.

For facilitators, developing a rich understanding of integration is essential. Our capacity to accompany participants does not end when a Holotropic session ends. Learning to recognize what may support integration and when to offer space, reflection, creative expression, embodiment or simply time, deepens our ability to support the unfolding process with sensitivity, respect and trust.

As integration aspects like Mandala drawing and sharing are always built into any Holotropic Breathwork workshop this module goes way beyond. It offers a range of self-empowering tools and practices that anyone can explore and further unpack by oneself or within a group of like-minded souls once back at home.

This module is open to anyone interested in Transpersonal Psychology and the healing potential of holotropic or expanded states of consciousness. No previous experience with the Holotropic Breathwork method or active imagination is required. The module speaks alike to people who are new to Transpersonal Psychology as well to those who are experienced already and wish to deepen their understanding.

Mireya Alejo Marcet

Mireya Alejo Marcet, MA. MFT,

is a Mexican woman who currently lives between California and Mexico and offers her work locally and internationally. She is an artist, licensed psychotherapist, Expressive Arts therapist (graduated from CIIS in 2002), Astrologer and Holotropic Breathwork facilitator. She certified from the Grof Transpersonal Training (GTT) in 1993 and has facilitated groups in this approach since that date. Her therapeutic and teaching work is informed by her experiences and training with “Curanderas” (medicine women) in Mexico as a Social Anthropologist, more than three decades of work with expanded states of consciousness, as well as the expressive arts, ceremonial practices and the astrological chart as tools for soul’s expression, healing and rebirthing.

She trained in Holotropic Breathwork with Stan Grof , Cristina Grof & team in the early 90’s and served as part of the Grof Transpersonal Training senior staff. In 2013 she was invited to develop a training on the topic of Integration she now calls, “A Multi-Modal Tapestry to Integration of Expanded States of Consciousness”. She offers this work through individual sessions, groups and online programs and regularly facilitates Holotropic Breathwork & Integration groups.

Mireya is the creator of “Altar Creation – A Canvas in Movement” a practice that offers diverse applications to connect with our interior life and the sacred, through the creation of altars and multimodal expressive arts theory. This is an integral part of her integration teaching and process. In her work through the years, she has had a strong commitment to women's life transitions and empowerment journey through ritual, creative arts and circles.

She is an adjunct professor at the California Institute of Integral Studies in the Expressive Arts Therapy Program and previously served as mentor in the Certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies and Research Program. Mireya strongly believes in the power of offering sacred, creative and permission-giving environments that support personal, collective and spiritual transformation. Because she continually turns to the arts for healing in her own life, those who work with her find it safe to explore, uncover, and release material from the depths of the psyche. She offers online and in-person individual sessions, group work, consultation and teaching. Her website: www.almaquecanta.com
