GTT MANDATORY MODULE. "THE HOLOTROPIC PARADIGM" - MOVING TOWARDS WHOLENESS

A 6-day residential workshop (in English with Italian translation) integrating lectures with deep experiential practice of Holotropic Breathwork.

In Assisi, Italy from the 19th to the 24th of July

The Holotropic Paradigm module provides the theoretical overview of Transpersonal Psychology and specifically the work of Dr. Stanislav Grof and his wife Christina.

The Holotropic Paradigm module is a cornerstone and one of the four mandatory modules for those seeking certification as facilitators in Holotropic Breathwork, and it's also ideal for anyone working in the psycho-social or therapeutic fields who wishes to deepen their understanding of the psyche and its profound healing capacities.

Together we will explore the core theoretical foundations of Transpersonal Psychology, Holotropic Breathwork and the therapeutic safe work in expanded states of consciousness.

1) The Origins of Holotropic Breathwork

Tracing the historical and philosophical roots of Holotropic Breathwork, we explore how it evolved as a powerful modality in the field of transpersonal psychology, bridging ancient wisdom with modern therapeutic techniques.

2) Holotropic Principles and Strategies

The foundational principles guiding Holotropic Breathwork are reviewed, providing a framework that includes respect for each individual's unique process and the innate inner healing wisdom of the psyche, the non-judgmental facilitation of inner exploration, and the facilitator's role in "doing not doing", thus supporting each person’s journey toward balance and wholeness.

3) Cartography of the Psyche

Dr. Stanislav Grof's cartography of the psyche—covering the perinatal matrices, biographical, and transpersonal dimensions—is studied in depth, helping participants to contextualize their own and others' inner experiences during expanded states of consciousness.

4) Perinatal Matrices

Grof’s Perinatal Matrices outline how experiences associated with the birth process shape our lives. By recognizing these layers in Holotropic experiences, participants gain insights into deep-seated themes of struggle, transformation, and rebirth.

5) COEX Systems

COEX (Systems of Condensed Experience) describes clusters of emotionally linked memories that shape our inner landscape. By exploring and working with these systems deeply rooted patterns in the psyche can be unlocked and open a potential for growth. Open forums and community dialogue provide a space for sharing and reflecting on the many facets of the Holotropic experience.

This intensive retreat offers a journey toward self-awareness and healing that equips participants with the theoretical foundation and insights essential for working with expanded states of consciousness and supporting others on their healing journeys.

In this module, the participants have the opportunity to get to know the practical experience of Holotropic Breathwork. During the six days of the module, each participant will have the experience of four sessions of Holotropic Breathwork, two as "breather" and two as "sitter".

Besides theoretical presentations and breathwork sessions, during the module, there will be arts, music, movies, and group integration time.

To participate in the module it is not necessary to have previous experience in Holotropic Breathwork. It is required to complete a brief confidential medical form. If you wish to continue with the Grof Transpersonal Training, this optional module is one of the four mandatory required.

Here is the registration for everyone who is already in training and would like to participate in a module as an apprentice.

The closest airport to Assisi is Perugia. The second closest Roma Fiumicino or Roma Ciampino. . We will provide a online shared travel list to coordinate taxi/car sharing opportunities among participants.

From Perugia Airport: You can reach the venue by taking a Bus (there are several options at the airport), or a combo train + bus called Perugia Airlink, alternatively arranging for private transportation. Further details here: https://airport.umbria.it/en/home-en

From Rome Airport: To get to the venue from Rome Airport, you have the option of taking a train to the nearby train station Roma Termini heading to Assisi, (the journey by train takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes), and then proceed to the venue by taxi.

By Car: From Piazzale Matteotti continue towards "Porta Perlici", one of the gates of Assisi, then proceed on the state road 444 in the direction of Gualdo Tadino for about 6 km. At km 26 of the state road to be traveled (see indicator on the left side of the road that indicates every km of the state road) turn right and carefully follow the signs “Az. Agr. Le Case ”/Santuario Madonna dei Tre Fossi/ Località Bandita Cileni (blue sign). The venue is 1 km above the “Madonna dei 3 Fossi” sanctuary.

Teacher & GTT Senior Facilitator

Sonja Busch

Sonja is a seasoned teacher and trainer with a specialization in trauma-sensitive, holistic approaches. As the GTT Europe Coordinator and Founder of the European Association for Holotropic Breathwork, she is dedicated to fostering deep transformation through Holotropic Breathwork and integrative therapeutic methods. Her private practice offers counseling, Bowen body therapy, and clinical supervision, providing a compassionate and safe space for psycho-spiritual support.

Her extensive experience includes work in diverse and often challenging environments, supporting vulnerable populations affected by gender-based violence, human trafficking, sexual abuse, and displacement. Her work in multiple countries, particularly in post-conflict regions, has refined her commitment to trauma-sensitive, person-centered care.

Sonja’s educational foundation includes advanced training in Bowen Body Therapy, a university degree in clinical supervision, coaching, and organizational development, as well as a Master’s degree in political science and sociology. She also holds a counseling diploma and is trained in various Jungian and Transpersonal Psychology modalities, including Psychosynthesis and SoulCollage. Passionate about integrating experiences from expanded states of consciousness, Sonja skillfully blends traditional and innovative approaches to foster therapeutic growth.

Payment Policy

The early bird price for the GTT Module is €950 inc.22% VAT. EARLY BIRDS DEAD LINE: 7th of June, 2027

The regular price after the early bird is €1.150 inc.22% VAT

Participants from non-EU countries are exempt from the 22% VAT, which will be deducted from the total. Registered EU companies with a valid VAT number will receive an invoice without VAT if the VAT number only if is provided during registration. Retroactive changes are not possible.

Participants from Poland, Ukraine, and other low-income countries who are experiencing verifiable economic difficulties are eligible to request a reduced rate. Kindly contact us for further details only if you fall in this category.

Please note that hotel accommodation is not included in the seminar fee and must be paid directly to the venue in advanced.. Detailed information will be provided upon registration. Accommodation rates per person, per day, including full board (meals and lodging), are as follows:

Single Room*: €135 per person
Double Room: €115 per person
Triple Room: €99 per person

When registration numbers are high, single rooms are subject to availability. Please note this during registration: we can only confirm single room assignments closer to the module date.

The price includes full board and generous coffee/tea breaks.

A deposit will be required to secure both the hotel booking and the seminar registration. Further details on the deposit amounts and payment instructions will be provided during the registration process.

Extra nights (before and/or after the module) can be booked by selecting the appropriate option in the registration form. All necessary information will be included in the confirmation email after registration.

Cancellation Policy

To secure your place in this special retreat, a non-refundable pre-payment of € 200,- is required upon registration. This amount is necessary to reserve your spot and will be applied toward the total cost of the program.

If you need to cancel your participation, please note the following:

Cancellations made before 1st of May 2027 will receive a refund of any payments made, minus the non-refundable €200 pre-payment.
Cancellations made after the 1st of May 2027 will not be eligible for a refund, except in exceptional circumstances, which will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. The money may be used for any other GTT module.
